Cosy crafting, housing and quiet routines across Azeroth, Destiny, ARC Raiders and beyond

Meet Tina at the Workbench

A little about how I got here

I am Tina Ross, and this journal began as a paper notebook beside my keyboard, full of half-finished thoughts about professions, reagent loops and the order I liked to craft in. Most of those hours were spent in World of Warcraft, slowly turning heaps of materials into something wearable or something to place in a room. I started typing the notes up so I would stop losing them, and friends kept asking for the tidy versions.

Since then the notebook has grown into a gentle habit. I play a game for weeks before I write a word about it, then I explain things the way I wish someone had explained them to me. Housing, cosmetics and calm evening routines are what I enjoy most, and I am happy to say when something frustrated me. Destiny 2, ARC Raiders, Overwatch and Warzone have all found their way into the pages too, always with a lamp on and a mug nearby.

Hello from the workbench

My name is Tina Ross, and this blog is where I keep the notes I would otherwise lose in a drawer. I am a slow, comfortable sort of player. I would rather finish a set of crafted furniture than race a leaderboard, and I measure a good evening by how settled the screen feels at the end of it.

Most of my hours go to World of Warcraft. I love the professions: the small rhythm of gathering, the clink of a finished piece, the way a spreadsheet of reagents slowly turns into something you can actually wear or place. Housing has become a second home for me, quite literally, and I spend long stretches choosing which lamp goes beside which chair.

What else I play

When I want something sharper I drift to Destiny 2, where I enjoy the armour dyes, the shaders and the quiet corners of the patrol spaces. ARC Raiders is a newer favourite for its tense, rainy scavenging runs, and Overwatch is where I go when I want a short, bright match with a friend. Warzone comes out on nights when I fancy being thrown into the deep end.

Rankings have never been my concern; what I bring is careful note-taking and a liking to explain things the way I wish someone had explained them to me.

How I write

  • I play the thing first, usually for weeks, before I type a word about it.
  • I keep a paper notebook beside the keyboard for half-formed ideas, then tidy them into posts later.
  • I say when something frustrated me. A guide that hides the annoying parts is not much of a guide.
  • I update old posts when a patch changes the facts, and I note it at the top.

My setup habits

I play in the evening with a warm lamp on, a mug within reach and the volume turned low. My screen is arranged for calm: few bars, soft colours where the game allows it, notifications trimmed. If you are curious about how I arrange things, the interface page has the details.

If a post helped you, or got something wrong, I would love to hear from you at info@aimiaagophotographyprize.com. Pull up a chair, there is usually room.
